“Setting of the hotel was picturesque. Very comfortable room and bed with lovely view over countryside. Tastefully decorated. Evening food was very tastey. The waitress at meal times was attentive and friendly. Lots of choice of continental and cooked breakfasts”

“Unbelievable for weddings was an amazing time. Really helpful from Nicola the wedding planner she was absolutely fantastic. Would highly recommend and at a very reasonable price in today’s economy. Whatever you do however don’t let Roger near your wedding as he was very miserable the whole way and was forcing us to meet times that wasn’t agreed. Didn’t even get to take many wedding photos because he was obsessive over being 5 minutes in line even though we had paid for the photographer and the wedding. Other than that fantastic!”

“Staff one of the most friendliest and helpful I have ever come across in a hotel. Fiona on reception and guy behind the bar exceptional service, also breakfast staff. Beautiful hotel with lots of character and good value for money. Attended a Murder Mystery evening here which was well run and good fun. Rooms big and clean.”

“Beautiful location, amazing food and the staff couldn't be more helpful! Couple 1 night stay. We stayed in the Strutt suite with sauna which was a lovely addition! We emailed in advance to ask if we could check-in slightly earlier (although 3pm check-in is pretty good anyway!) as this was a very rare and special occasion for us and they did all they could to oblige and make us feel welcome and they were able to let us check-in earlier which was lovely. The room itself was enormous but a little tired (curtains were coming of the tracks but still closed and opened ok (extremely dark at night!), and we found £1 under the table and could have been cleaned better around the edges but the bed, bathroom and main walking areas were clean). It didn't really have a view of the grounds (as is inferred when booking the room) as the windows look the wrong way and from the balcony the trees are too big but I still loved having the balcony for a drink on an unusually warm March afternoon! Overnight it was extremely quiet and peaceful. This particular room has a staircase up to the bed and lounge area (sauna as you come through the door downstairs) and doesn't have any neighboring rooms either side or above (not sure about below but didn't hear a thing) so it feels very private. Bed was very big and comfy and bathroom was lovely and big with walk in shower and bath, but could have done with some coat hooks to hang your robe on (and I think the shower door is on the wrong side as it's right by the entrance door and where the shower controls are so the floor gets wet). TVs worked fine and had good phone signal. Didn't actually use the WiFi though so can't comment on that. Robes were provided and the sauna was easy to use and lovely for a unique stay! We had a drink in the bar and dinner in the hotel restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious!! We were the only ones in there (it was a Thursday night in March) so service was very fast and friendly and it didn't feel awkward. Roger seemed to do a bit of everything, he was in the bar and serving in the restaurant and setting up for an event the next day and he was fantastic! So friendly, efficient and put us at ease. He also recommended a little stroll up to the old pub up the road (Holly Bush Inn) which is definitely worth a visit! Breakfast in the morning was fantastic, buffet with juice, tea coffee, croissants, Fruit, yoghurt, nuts and cereal etc plus you could order a variety of cooked breakfast too. Again lovely food and great service and the checkout time of 11am was welcome. I thought the public areas of the hotel, including the grounds, were lovely and well presented. Overall we had a lovely night stay and would come back! Thank you :-)”

“It was a nice place doggie friendly, we received a doggie welcome pack in our room. The room was large and private in the courtyard away from the main building. Staff were lovely. This is no reflection on the staff, however I suspect that some people with dogs don’t bring with them doggie products for cleaning after accidents. As our little dog spent a lot of time sniffing the carpet. I would suggest a clean with a carpet cleaner would help freshen the room. As we have stayed at other doggie friendly places and not had this issue. Also the shower was very slippery and a non slip mat would help with this. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay.”

“We stayed at this hotel as a belated Christmas present to me from my partner and absolutely loved our experience! The room was spacious and really well decorated, with lovely views over the countryside and late afternoon sunshine. The restaurant is amazing, set in a glasshouse/conservatory style room in the gardens, so amazing views on all sides. I'm a coeliac, and the menu was largely gluten free, which was a huge bonus for me! It was all delicious too. Everyone was really friendly and helpful, and the hotel is set in an amazing location just south of the Peak District park. Amazing stay, definitely want to go back again!!”

“Eleven of us on a golf trip. We enjoyed our stay. Staff very helpful, rooms clean, easy parking, good location. Breakfasts were OK, but the sausages could have been better quality. The outside of the hotel (especially the areas around the roof gutters) do need some TLC. Overall, very good value.”
